As in recent years, this year we can again look forward to a special batch of festival beer. Family brewery Krušnohor from Kraslice in Sokolovsko, which scored 2 nd place in last year’s 4 th year of the festival, has taken on the responsibility of making this year’s brew. Light, 10% draft beer will be available, yet again carrying a name of one type of swimming style. Compared to the traditional Kraslice’s 10% beer, it mainly differentiates itself in higher bitterness, lower level of fermentation and the use of cold hop. Impressive 500 litres will be available, most of which on tap but a few dozens of litres also in glass bottles.
Original Gravity: 10° Plato, ABV: 3.9 %, Bitterness: 40 IBU
Content: water, barley malt (Pilsner and CaraPils), modified hops (Žatec early ripening amber, Sládek, Premiant and Harmonie).

You can’t have beer without BEER SOUVENIRS, which certainly won’t be missing from our festival.
On Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 the program will also include the BEER FLEA MARKET, where members of the Club of Collectors of Beer Souvenirs Prague and others will have a large number of their beer souvenirs on display and available for purchase. Additional information: (marek.kamlar@gmail.com).
Year: XII.
Date: 14. – 15. June 2024
Location: Rašínovo nábřeží, aka the Vltava Náplavka – between Palackého and the railway bridge, in Prague 2
Organizer: Archetyp, z. s.
Goals: As during previous years, the goal of the festival was to introduce a wide range of people interested in beer, with the products of small Czech breweries. This includes introducing people to varied flavours of beers as well as being able to facilitate direct contact between customers and the owners of breweries and brewers themselves. The organisers also tried to introduce newly created mini breweries from different parts of the Czech Republic to the residents of Prague.
Visitors: approximately 8 000 in total
There may be several reasons why microbreweries participate in the Beer at Náplavka festival. Some of the main reasons include the opportunity to present the brewery and its special beers, do some market research, invite people to come, present a new business, as well as meet other brewers. The opportunity for feedback from customers and professional degustators was also valuable. Whether 44 participating microbreweries is a lot or too few can be a subject of discussion. However, a number like this is traditional at the Beer at Náplavka festival. There was a group of microbreweries at the market that had regularly attended the festival in previous years. There was also the second group of microbreweries that were new to our visitors, or that only operate regionally. Either way, it was completely up to the visitors to decide where they wanted to go to taste different beers. There were approximately 200 beers to choose from.
Beer souvenir exchange: Beer souvenirs are inseparable from beer, and they also traditionally belong at this festival. In addition to those offered free of charge, individual breweries also sold their own company souvenirs (coasters and labels). The Saturday programme also included a beer souvenir flea market (10 am to 2 pm), where members of the Brewery souvenirs collectors’ club offered their surplus glasses, coasters, labels and other beer advertising items. This flea market was led by Marek Kamlár. The visitors were very interested in buying these items. There was also a lot of interest in buying t-shirts with the festival logo.
Beer in glass: Since the first year, the festival organisers have promoted drinking beer from glass steins. This year it was obvious that this idea was embedded in the minds of the visitors and brewers present. The beer was consumed only from 0.3 l glasses bought at the market. This was similar to the Rosé May event held on 18 May 2024, aimed at promoting rosés, where people bought the festival glasses without comment or question. The reason for tasting beer from glass were posted at the booths selling these glasses, in both Czech and English. Therefore, there was no need to mark paying visitors with coloured armbands.

Festival beer: Vltavský převozník
As is usual with this festival, there is a limited-edition festival beer available, this time with the poetic name ‘Vltava Ferryman’ (Vltavský převozník). Only 500 litres of it were brewed in the Brewery Krum Moravský Krumlov. This brewery (led by brewer MVDr. Radek Nedopil, MBA) was voted the best in 2022, during the 10th annual Beer at Náplavka festival. The festival visitors were also very interested in the festival coaster with the logo of this limited-edition beer.
Conclusion: This degustation festival of Czech minibreweries was the 11th annual festival taking place at Rašínovo nábřeží. It is hard to say whether its visitors and especially the microbreweries were ‘hungry’ for local participation. It was interesting to watch couples and teams of work colleagues (who were out for teambuilding) during their evaluation of beers. The high attendance and amount of money spent, confirmed the well-targeted campaign. The fact that the magical Vltava embankment attracts people to take a stroll in the area, along with the water and swans, coupled with the view of Hradčany and Old Town, also contributed to the success of the festival. Beer at Náplavka does not set out to compare itself with other festivals held in the same year in Prague. Its focus on microbreweries and the consumption of beer from small, 0.3l glass steins sets the festival apart from others. This festival is also unique because it provides a space for collectors of beer souvenirs, there is beer brewed just for the special occasion, and there is a wide variety of food options that pair well with beer. There were also several bands performing live, which contributed to the visitors’ satisfaction.

Festival beer: Vltavský hausbót – speciál – 11% - polotmavý ležák
Vltavský hausbót (The Vltava Houseboat) – semi-dark lager. As is usual with this festival, there is a limited-edition festival beer available, this time with the name Vltavský hausbót. It was created in Brewery Krum Moravský Krumlov, with only 500 litres brewed. This brewery (under the leadership of brewmaster MVDr. Radek Nedopil, MBA) was the most popular at the 9th festival in 2019 as voted by visitors. The festival visitors were also very interested in the festival coaster and label sticker, with the logo of this limited-edition beer on them.
Conclusion: This was the 10th annual festival of Czech mini and microbreweries at Náplavka, celebrating a small jubilee. The festival sadly took place at a time of high inflation (16%), so logically, the prices of beer were higher too. A 0.3l draught 10-11 OG beer cost around 40-50 CZK. Beers with higher OG and special beers cost even more. Both days of the festival were affected by very high temperatures. Especially on Saturday, the temperatures at Náplavka reached 35-37°C.
'Beer at Náplavka' has been presented as a degustation festival since the beginning. With that, the organisers want to highlight the fact that not only wine, but also beer can be degustated, more attention should be paid to it, and that it can be a part of high culture. That is also why a glass stein comes with the tickets. Thousands of visitors, both Czechs and foreigners, were able to taste 200 different beers from 52 small Czech breweries and minibreweries, they also had the opportunity to taste the limited-edition festival beer, try a wide variety of Czech and international cuisine, as well as interesting live music. The wide variety of lemonades created by the breweries were also highly popular due to hot weather. The very hot weather was made better by the close proximity of the Vltava river.
The Beer at Náplavka festival does not intend to compare itself to other beer festivals in Prague. It is unique in its focus on mini and microbreweries, as well as the consumption of beer from glass steins. Additionally, this festival also gives space to collectors of beer souvenirs, serves beers that were brewed in limited quantities specifically for the festival, and there is also plenty of gastronomy to go along with the beer. There were also live music performances that added to the good atmosphere at the festival.

This includes introducing people to varied flavours of beers as well as being able to facilitate direct contact between customers and the owners of breweries and brewers themselves. Festival beer: As is usual with this festival, there is a limited-edition festival beer available, this time with the name Holešovický beyk (Holešovice bull). Only 450 litres were brewed. The festival visitors were also very interested in the festival coaster and label sticker, with the logo of this limited-edition beer on them.
Conclusion: Beer at the Prague Market was one of the only beer festivals allowed to take place in September 2020 due to the coronavirus situation. It took place in the Prague Market in Prague 7, Holešovice. It was truly stressful because there were many uncertainties, both for the organisers and the breweries involved – would the festival even take place? The situation was changing every day. The numbers were rising, and precautions were changing. The reason why the festival did not take place at Náplavka was the lack of available dates at Náplavka.
The participation of Budweiser Budvar at a beer festival of small and mini Czech breweries may have surprised some people. To explain this, it has to be highlighted that it is a national brewery, which can provide inspiration for all others involved in this business. Budvar has recently cooperated with six minibreweries, which even further explains its place at the festival. The minibreweries cooperating with Budweiser Budvar are Brewery Antoš, Brewery Clock, Brewery Cobolis, Brewery Nachmelená Opice (Hopped up monkey), Brewery Permon, Family brewery Zichovec and Brewery dvůr Zvíkov.

Festival beer: Vltavský znak (The Vltava Backstroke). As is usual with this festival, there is a limited-edition festival beer available, this time with the name Vltavský znak. It was created in the Family brewery U Vacků from Chlumec nad Cidlinou, with only 500 litres brewed. The festival visitors were also very interested in the festival coaster and label sticker, with the logo of this limited-edition beer on them.
Conclusion: The space at Náplavka is limited. In 2019, we managed to fit 55 minibreweries on it. Tens of other breweries sadly had to be turned away due to the limited space that was available. This was the seventh annual degustation festival of mainly Czech minibreweries at Náplavka. ‘Beer at Náplavka’ has been presented as a degustation festival since the beginning. Festival beer: Vltavská Čubička (The Vltava Dog Paddle). As is usual with this festival, there is a limited-edition festival beer available, this time with the name Vltavská čubička. For the first time in the festival’s history, it was an American-style wheat beer, aka American Wheat Ale. It was created in the Family brewery Krušnohor in Kraslice in the Sokolovsko region, with only 500 litres brewed. The festival visitors were also very interested in the festival coaster and label sticker, with the logo of this limited-edition beer on them.

Year: VI. (V. at Náplavka)
Date: 16. and 17. June 2017 (Friday 14:00-22:00, Saturday 10:00-22:00)
Location: Rašínovo nábřeží, aka the Vltava Náplavka – between Palackého and the railway bridge (17. June even beyond the railway bridge in combination with the farmer’s market) in Prague 2
Organizer: Archetyp, z. s.
Goal: As during previous years, the goal of the festival was to introduce a wide range of people interested in beer, with the products of small Czech breweries. This includes introducing people to varied flavours of beers as well as being able to facilitate direct contact between customers and the owners of breweries and brewers themselves. The organisers also tried to introduce newly created mini breweries from different parts of the Czech Republic to the residents of Prague.
Participants: 54, more than 200 different types of beers
Festival beer: Vltavské Ouško (The Vltava Sidestroke). As is usual with this festival, there is a limited-edition festival beer available, this time with the name Vltavské ouško. It was created in the Family brewery Krušnohor in Kraslice in the Sokolovsko region, with only 500 litres brewed. It was a strong bitter 10-degree beer, with a lower degree of fermentation, made through the process of dry hopping.
Conclusion: There are many things in Prague that change constantly. One thing that has changed during the last decades was the use of the Prague Náplavka. In the past, there were rafts and boats anchoring at Náplavka, and boats would unload sand here. Children would play in these piles of sand, with some of them even jumping into the sand from the pavement above. When the Vltava would freeze over, people would go ice skating there, and chunks of ice would be cut out and distributed to local pubs for the purpose of cooling beer. The farmer’s market has had a massive impact on the transformation of the area between the Palackého and railway bridge. Especially in the last few years, Náplavka became a popular spot for tourists as well as the locals.
Special events have also been popular at Náplavka. One of these events is ‘Beer at Náplavka’, which is a degustation festival of small and mini breweries. This was the 5th annual festival, where Náplavka would be filled with this popular golden-coloured drink. This festival was organised under the auspices of the minister of agriculture Marian Jurečka, as well as the vice-mayor of Prague 2, Jan Korseska. Minister Jurečka also said that this was a unique chance to support small breweries, that create original and special beers.
The goal of this event was to also support Czech products and their manufacturers. ‘Beer at Náplavka’ has been presented as a degustation festival since the beginning. With that, the organisers want to highlight the fact that not only wine, but also beer can be degustated, more attention should be paid to it, and that it can be a part of high culture.
housands of visitors, both Czechs and foreigners, were able to taste 200 different beers from more than 50 different small Czech breweries and minibreweries, they also had the opportunity to taste the limited-edition festival beer, attend tours of the only Czech brewery on a boat, try a wide variety of Czech and international cuisine, as well as interesting live music. There was something for everyone – Czech lager, ale, stout, wheat beer and more! Some beers caught people’s attention because of their names, some because of their ingredients or process of creation (for example beer with squid ink, beer aged on top of fruit macerated in Caribbean rum Abuelo, or a what beer with hibiscus and lemongrass), or the story behind them (for example Liberbeer from the newly created Free Republic of Liberland). The men loved beer with chilli or smoked meat flavours, while women enjoyed beer with the flavour of blueberries, grapefruit, plums, or vanilla. Of course, there was something for the gluten-free customers as well, with the bottled beer Celia being available in both light and dark versions. There was also a non-alcoholic beer, Střízlík. The warm weather also meant that it was an ideal day to try out different flavours of lemonades that were available, made by the different breweries themselves. Of course, there was classic lemonade and pink lemonade made with raspberries, as well as elderberry, blackcurrant, strawberry, lavender, cherry, ginger and malt flavours.
Year: IV.
Date: 17 – 18 June 2016
Location: Náplavka at Rašínovo nábřeží, between Palackého and the railway bridge, Prague 2
Organizer: NGO Archetyp
Goals:
Aims: The aim of the festival was, as in previous years, to introduce to the widest audience possible not only the beer production of small Czech breweries and pointing out the different taste of their beer as compared to the beer of large common production, but also to provide those interested with the opportunity to meet directly with the owners and brew masters. Besides that, the organizers attempted to introduce to Prague’s inhabitants the newly established microbreweries, both from Prague and its surrounding areas and from the various regions of the Czech Republic. Through providing large variety of refreshments, including non-alcoholic drinks the attendance of the event was made suitable for whole families with children.
Participants: 45 small, micro and mobile breweries and more than 100 kinds of beer specialities. The consumption of presented beer caused strong craving for food which was satisfied through thirty food facilities and their offered delicacies, from crackling, baguettes, burgers to Czech classics, home-made lemonade and coffee.
Festival beer: As in previous years the festival had its own batch of beer brewed by the winner of the visitors’ vote regarding the favourite brewery of the year and named after a type of swimming stroke. This time it was a light 12% beer named “Vltava’s front crawl”. The beer was brewed at Sedlčany brewery Krčín in the amount of 500 litres.
Conclusion: Conclusion: High participation rate of 45 breweries stemming from the success of previous years of the festival, it being the event at Parukářka in 2012 or Vltava’s Náplavka in the years of 2013 to 2015. The festival has established its good reputation and prestige which resulted in high interest in participation of new breweries. The success of the tasting festival and its concept is also underlined by the fact that before the festival even happened, many beer events had already taken place during the month of June. Those however differ in style and the amount of financial support of the co-organizers. The festival “Beer at Náplavka” does not aim to compare itself in its focus to other festivals organized the same year in Prague. Its focus on microbreweries and drinking beer from glasses or pitchers (0.3 l) is a distinctive feature from some of them, as well as its concern to offer something extra (exchange, autograph sessions, exhibitions). The festival also differentiate itself by giving space to collectors of beer souvenirs, by serving draft beer in limited amounts made specifically for the event and by offering varied cuisine. The presence of the owners and brew masters from the microbreweries is also significant.

Year: III.
Date: 19 – 20 June 2015
Location: Náplavka at Rašínovo nábřeží, between Palackého and the railway bridge, Prague 2
Organizer: NGO Archetyp
Goals:
As in previous years, the aim of the festival was to introduce beer from small breweries and microbreweries to the widest audience possible. The goal was to point out strong distinctions in the flavor of beer from such production as compared to large breweries and to create an opportunity for direct meeting with the brew masters and owners. Besides that, the organizers also attempted to introduce the newly established microbreweries to Prague’s residents, namely in Prague itself and in the Central Bohemian Region. To make a tradition out of any event means not only organizing it regularly but also periodically holding it during the same dates and at the same location. This was unfortunately not accomplished this year in terms of the place as the usual dates at the end of May (29.-30.5.) were assigned by the Municipal Authority of Prague to another event. Festival Beer at Náplavka 2015 therefore took place not until the end of the 25 th week of the year.
Participants: 58 small Czech and Moravian breweries and microbreweries offered more than 150 kinds of beer and in some cases, also home-made lemonades. Quality cuisine included not only Czech delicacies but also foreign specialties well- matched with beer.
Festival beer: PAs in previous years a batch of festival beer was prepared for the visitors, namely 250 litres of non-filtered, non-pasteurized 11% light lager “Vltava’s breaststroke”, its name inspired by a type of swimming stroke. The beer was brewed by Slepý krtek from Ujkovice, favorite brewery from the previous year of the festival. This and other kinds of beer inspired craving for food which was satisfied through about thirty different facilities and their offered specialties, from crackling to baguettes and burgers to Czech delicacies.
Program: Performance of several bands throughout the two days, farmer’s market on Saturday and presentation of various beer souvenirs in the form of flea market.
